Just In: More Tops & Jewels For Fall

Just dropped on Stella & Dot are brand new tops and jewelry for fall. This fall season, we are seeing grey for days. This neutral is the perfect staple for any wardrobe, especially for fall. Grey is more forgiving and flattering than brown, and brighter and more feminine than black. Plus, it’s the perfect item to pack on vacation, as it goes with many colors.

Easy Outfit #1: This everyday outfit idea is perfect for a busy mom (below left). The look features the light grey St Germain Scarf, the Mia Cold Shoulder Top, and the Charlotte Druzy Drop Earrings by Stella & Dot. Just add your favorite pair of jeans and head out the door!

Another color that can act like a neutral is dark purple and plum. This shade is much easier to wear than you may think (trust!) and it’s fun and flirty.

Easy Outfit Idea #2: Another great outfit idea (above right) is great for date night or a holiday party. This fresh and fun look is up-to-date, but still flirty and flattering. Wear the dark purple Roz One Shoulder Top and pair with a statement earring like the Jasper Fringe Earrings from Stella & Dot.

Stella & Dot Adds Tops, In Addition to Jewelry

Award-winning jewelry and accessories line Stella & Dot now offers even more items to help you complete your outfit goals — tops! With ten new blouses offered for late summer and early fall, they are perfect everyday clothing pieces tat you’ll grab from your closet again and again.

These classic tops are limited edition, so when they are gone, they’re gone for good… So snag a Stella & Dot top while you can!

All ten tops are neutral, everyday pieces, and they range in size from XS to 2X and are flattering on a range of body types.

One of my faves is the black Stella & Dot Marcella Cold Shoulder Top. Pair it with a long statement earring to keep the attention up toward your face, and keep the necklace in your jewelry box.

Another fave is the white Flared Sleeve Bianca Knit Tee, above, which is a perfect blank canvas for any statement necklace.

How to Create a Complete Outfit in 3 Easy Steps

I am a believer that what you wear can have a huge impact on how you feel. Clothes can help you feel empowered, beautiful, sexy, feminine and confident. To harness the power of the outfit, I encourage you to focus on these three steps to creating a complete outfit, so it highlights your personality and your best physical assets — and helps you feel like a million bucks!

I’ve noticed that, unfortunately, most women don’t complete their outfit. They usually throw on a top with a bottom piece, slip on some shoes, and head out the door. This is really just completing the first steps. I beg you — as the beautiful, capable, unique person that you are — to learn how to create an entire outfit. And here’s why: You will stand out. You will feel confident and fabulous. And you will feel like yourself.

You won’t be just another ‘cookie cutter’ woman on the street, wearing the same uniform of jeans and tee, or skirt and blouse, right? Of course not! You want to feel and look like you.

So here are the three simple steps to creating a complete outfit:

1.) Always Start With a Foundation
Just like putting on makeup, building a house, or completing a math equation, you need to start with a good foundation. It’s impossible to move onto Steps 2 and 3 if you don’t first understand the fundamentals. So, the first step here is to determine if you have the fundamental clothing pieces in your existing wardrobe to build what I like to call a “foundational outfit.” These are pieces that you probably have in your wardrobe, and they are pieces that you have heard or read about — the “classics,” such as a quality blazer, a great pair of trousers, and a timeless wrap dress.

Shop your closet for these 10 Closet Staples that I believe every woman should own. Begin to take inventory of these items and see what’s already in your closet, and what you may need to purchase (immediately or over time). These 10 clothing pieces will be the starting point for the majority of your “foundational outfits.”

Screen shot 2014-06-01 at 11.40.04 PM
Here’s a few examples of how you can put these items together for different occasions to create a “foundational outfit:”

Silk Blouse + Trousers = Interview
Silk Blouse + Pencil Skirt = Office Presentation
Pencil Skirt + T-shirt = Girls Night Out
T-Shirt + Trousers = Window Shopping
Skinny Jeans + Silk Blouse = Sunday Brunch
Skinny Jeans + T-shirt + Blazer = Date Night

The more items you have in your closet from this list (see it again here: 10 Closet Staples), the better off you are with creating a foundation of outfits in your wardrobe.

2.) Add Elements to Show Your Personality & Experiment With Trends
The next step in creating a complete outfit is what I call the “elements.” In reading the above outfit examples, you probably had a picture pop into your head. When you read the example, “Silk Blouse + Trousers = Interview,” you most likely had a complete picture in your head — you probably saw in your mind what kind of purse you were carrying, or what type of shoes you were wearing.

I feel that these “elements” are key to highlighting your personality and your style type. And it’s also where you streamline everything, so your outfit works for your body shape (so you look and feel your best, of course!).

Screen shot 2014-06-02 at 12.19.52 AMThere are tons of tips and tricks regarding what to wear and how to dress for your body shape and personality, and I unfortunately can’t cover them all here. But during this step is when you execute what you know and what you’ve learned over the years (such as rolling up your jacket sleeve or pant leg, or half-tucking your t-shirt), and also when you show a glimpse of, well, you. Show who you are! Be proud of your sunny, friendly personality by wearing a yellow silk top or by carrying a poppy-orange handbag. Or maybe you want to rock some killer heels if you prefer a sexy, glam vibe. More examples of “elements” are shown below.
Screen Shot 2015-08-13 at 10.54.49 PM
As another example, let’s take the “Skinny Jeans + T-Shirt + Blazer” combo from the list above in Step 1. Let’s say your style and personality are laid back, classic and a little boho. You could add slip-on sneakers and stack your wrist with some bohemian beaded bracelets. Or perhaps you’re a little more edgy and rock & roll. You could choose a skull scarf and moto boots as your “elements.”

Also, this step is also where you incorporate any trends that you’d like to wear. If harem pants are your thing — then rock ’em, girl! Just pair them with a silk blouse, or with the t-shirt and blazer from Step 1 (see how this all comes together, here?), so it’s not costume-y, and still feels like you.

3.) Add Texture and Color
The last step is the fun part! You can experiment with different color combos or mix several accessories to complete your ensemble. I like to use at least two colors in every outfit (really, I prefer three).  Additionally, I encourage you to use accessories to really play up, and a few more that are opposite, the “elements” that you just added from Step 2.

For example, let’s say you’re the rock & roll gal from Step 2 (with the skull scarf and moto boots). I would encourage you to add color to your outfit and play off the rocker vibe, say, with a bold red lip, liquid eyeliner, and punky stud earrings in a fun color.

Here’s another example, shown below, using the basic outfit from Step 2 — the silk blouse and trouser combo.

Screen shot 2014-06-02 at 12.12.58 PMAfter that, the majority of your accessories should be more basic so you still look sleek and streamlined. Also, during these finishing touches, I challenge you to find a few accessories that might oppose the before-mentioned “elements.” To continue with our example, say you now have four “rocker” pieces (moto boots, skull scarf, red lips, stud earrings); now challenge yourself to juxtapose those elements with texture (lace, pearls, silk, satin) or with color (lavender, baby blue, pale yellow) that is opposite of that style type. You don’t want it to be too out of the box, because you still want to feel like yourself, but this a great way to play with opposites, have fun & be a little surprising, as you are now complete your fabulous outfit!

Stella & Dot Loves Palm Leaf Print!

I’m such a summer girl! I love the lazy pool days, barbecues, fresh fruits, and overall energy of the season. That’s why I have been so happy to see so much Palm leaf print lately – seriously, it’s everywhere! There really is no better print that screams “summer is coming!” like this one.

Whitney Eve from Nordstrom’s Palm Leaf Dress (top left), is so feminine and delicate! Its blush pink color is ethereal, and our whimsically charming Christina Link Bracelet (top right) in gold (only $49 here!), pairs perfectly with it. H&M’s Long Dress in Palm Leaf (bottom left) is great for a day at the beach, and why not add our Signature Engravable Bar Cuff  (bottom right) to complete your look?! This bracelet is charmingly simple, and you can add your initials, or geographical coordinates…maybe the coordinates to wherever your fabulous summer beach vacation will be this year!

palmbracelet

Nordstrom has a ton of designers available, so it’s no surprise they have all caught on to the Palm leaf trend! Nordstrom’s Sanctuary City Mix Palm Leaf Tank (top left) is super versatile, and our Chelsea Tech Wallet ($69 here, seen on top right) gives it that little extra pop of hot pink for Spring & Summer time! I can’t get over how adorable Taylor Dresses from Nordstrom’s Tropical Print Fit & Flare Dress (bottom left) is! It’s just so fun & vibrant, and Stella & Dots’s Avalon Tote in Blush Perf ($148 here, seen on bottom right) pairs perfectly with this dress, creating a fabulously beachy look in seconds!

Stella & Dot Loves Spring – The Season of Change

Spring is one of my absolute favorite times of year, because it’s all about change! The weather is becoming sunnier, dormant plants are beginning to bloom gorgeous flowers, and our wardrobes are ready for a Spring cleaning. Stella & Dot does a wonderful job at embracing this season of change through our incredibly versatile jewelry and accessories pieces!

Some great examples of versatility are the multiple styles of chandelier earrings that Stella & Dot offers. The beautiful Hibiscus Chandelier Earrings (below left) can be worn four different ways with its removable bottom petal and teardrop piece! This allows for the earrings to change from chandelier to drop earrings in a matter of seconds. Plus, they are adorable!  The coral color is so fresh and vibrant for spring and summer.  Find these 4-in-1 Earrings here for only $44 (which is an awesome price, especially since you’re basically getting four pairs of earrings!) Another option is the Tropicana Earrings (below center) which are super colorful, fun, and absolutely perfect for Spring. These stunning earrings can be worn three different ways. Find them here for only $49. An additional 3-in-1 earring is the stunning Sardinia Earrings (below right), and come in both turquoise and red. These earrings can also be worn in three different ways, with easily detachable sections to adjust length and create three completely unique looks, going from chandelier to stud in seconds! Our Sardinia Earrings are available here for only $59!

In addition to a full bouquet of gorgeous & versatile earring options, Stella & Dot also offers some fabulous bracelets and cuffs that can be worn alone, or shine gloriously in an arm party! The Stella & Dot Pyramid Stud Cuff Bracelet is both edgy and delicate, which allows for maximum layering potential! This bracelet comes in silver & gold for $44, find it here. You can see this bracelet in full arm party swing pictured below right. It is paired with the delicate silver Pavé Arrow Cuff ($34) & the silver Gilded Arrow Bracelet ($39). Another Stella & Dot staple is our simple yet stunning Alice bracelet ($49), pictured below left.

In addition to versatility, Stella & Dot is known for statement jewelry. The turquoise and gold Isa Disc Necklace is a bold, beautiful, and can be worn four ways. Two of its beautiful layers are detachable, which allows you to be vibrant when you desire, and if you want to turn it down a notch, still wear a truly gorgeous necklace. Our whimsically charming Riveria Statement Necklace, below center, looks like it comes straight out of a fairy tale, and while it certainly lives up to its “statement necklace” title, it also boasts detachable layers to lighten it up a bit and allow for two different, but equally fun, styles, for just $148. Our Pop Geo Pendant Necklace offers detachable sections, and adds a brilliant, vibrant splash of pink & orange to your wardrobe to help get ready for spring, pictured below right, for only $89.

How to Accessorize For Your Summer Getaway

Whether you’re heading to the mountains, lake, city or beach, these summer essentials will help you look super cute and stylish on your next summer getaway.

1.) Lightweight Summer Scarf
It sounds like an oxymoron – summer scarf – but chilly air conditioned restaurants and breezy nights call for a light coverup. A scarf works great to keep off the chill, and also makes a great travel companion! Wear on the plane to keep warm, wrap around your waist as a sarong or bathing suit coverup, or roll it up and use it as a pillow on a long car ride. Tip: Summer scarves are more lightweight (think cotton or rayon, not cashmere) and come in bright, fun colors and prints.

Stella & Dot Scarves: Turquoise Ikat Scarf, on sale for just $41; Capri Cotton Scarf in Mosaic Tile Print, just $59; Citrine Watercolor Floral Scarf, just $59.

2.) Large Tote Bag
A no brainer for some, but it’s worth repeating: Get a larger travel bag for your getaway. Don’t use your expensive handbags or your work bag for your summer trip, it just doesn’t fit the bill. Choose something larger in size – which can go from plane to car to beach to shopping to dinner, and back again! – with several pockets, a sturdy material, and a pop of color or a fun print.

Screen shot 2014-07-02 at 4.18.45 PMCapriToteScreen shot 2014-07-02 at 4.23.03 PM
Stella & Dot Tote Bags: Perforated Avalon Market Tote in Red Geranium, $148; Capri Tote in Jeweled Zebra Print, $98; La Totale Large Tote Bag, $118 and comes in two prints. Note: the Avalon Tote and the La Totale Large Tote are both on sale for half price in the month of July with your $50+ order!

3.) Long Necklace
A longer, more streamlined necklace is a great vacation accessory because it “anchors” a lot of flowy tops and dresses, which are obviously popular during the summer! Whether you’re wearing your trusty white tee, a maxi dress or a gauzy blouse – this necklace will work! It’s universally flattering, for all style types and body shapes, and works with almost any outfit. Tip: If you tend to wear sold colors or more plain clothing, opt for a funky, quirky necklace. If you like to wear prints or colorblocking, choose a more streamlined necklace with simple lines.

Stella & Dot Necklaces: Kimberly Necklace, $89 (also comes in silver); Rebel Pendant Necklace (also comes in gold), $79; Sanibel Reversible Semi-Precious Stone Pendant, $79 (also comes in silver); Mallorca Pendant Necklace, on sale for just $67!

4.) Clutch
This is a great travel accessory that is often overlooked. A clutch can serve as your wallet or passport holder while traveling, and you can put it nicely into a larger travel tote (such as the before mentioned tote bags), which keeps you organized while you’re on the go. Just pop in your cell, lip gloss, money and room key and you’re off to dinner! Tip: Choose a bright color or pattern that will complement most outfits in your suitcase. If you wear prints, opt for a sold clutch, and if you wear a lot of solid colors, add some oomph with something fun and unexpected. If you’re bringing a scarf to keep warm, choose a clutch that will complement it nicely.

Stella & Dot Clutch Purses: Perforated Clutch in Yellow, $89 (also comes in red geranium); City Slim Clutch in Aztec Coral, $49; Avalon Bracelet Clutch in Cobalt Blue, $69 (also available in black).

5.) Jeweled or Metallic Sandals
Another great way to update your outfit and look instantly chic! Pair metallic sandals or jeweled wedges with your jeans and tee – add the necklace and the clutch – and you’re now ready for cocktails! One of the best ways to feel fabulous and a little bit fancy while on your trip, while still being comfy. Plus, it takes up very little space in your luggage! Tip: Use the Stella & Dot scarf bag (that the scarfs come in) as a shoe bag when you travel! You can fit two pairs of flip flops or sandals, or one pair of heels, in the bag. So easy and so cute!

Kristi from the The Coral Court Shows You How to Organize Your Jewelry

My friend and customer Kristi from The Coral Court (follow her! she’s awesome!) recently shared a post on how she organizes her jewelry. See how she edits and organizes her necklaces, watches and bracelets. Thanks for the great tips, Kristi! (www.thecoralcourt.com)

Organize

My jewelry situation used to be an organizational nightmare. I would basically just toss my jewelry on the dresser which would result in a tangled mess and earring studs in the vacuum cleaner.  I decided to make a change to how I organized all of my “stuff” and that is where The Container Store and a homemade necklace holder came into the picture.

I need to warn you. If you decide to go to The Container Store or surf their website, have someone with you! You will spend your entire life savings there! I have bought containers for my shoes, nail polish, makeup, makeup brushes, jewelry, and knick knacks at that store. It truly has everything you need to become an over the top organizer. I am not someone that needs a gorgeous storage container to make my space look aesthetically pleasing. I just like my space to be simple and clean so this is my go to store.

The wall mount necklace holder was made by my dad as a solution to my mangled necklace mess. I have tried different storage units including the jewelry box that you can hang them on and the behind the door pockets but I needed something that allowed my necklaces to hang all the way down. I organize the necklaces by gold, silver, delicate, bauble, and long ones. There are so many DIY sites for how to make these and the possibilities of what they can look like are endless because you can customize the hooks and the board you mount them on.

Style Blogger Sydne Summer Takes Stella & Dot to Fashion Week!

Bejeweled Fashion Week

Original post from Sydne Style, see it HERE

Sydne-Style-Stella-and-Dot-jewelry-fashion-week-nyfw-roses-statement-necklace-crystals-pearls

I’m so excited to announce that I’m partnering with Stella & Dot for Fashion Week! Every day I’m in New York, I’ll be bringing you a new look accessorized with Stella & Dot jewels. Here’s a sneak peek of what I’m packing in my travel jewelry case…

My theme for fashion week this season is a Winter Pop of Color. I’ll be achieving that two ways: One way is through bold dresses and coats. Gold jewelry is the perfect accent for this look.

Sydne-Style-Stella-and-Dot-fashion-week-jewelry-gold-bangle

While I’m usually drawn to more delicate bracelets, I’m loving Stella & Dot’s new Adelina Cuff ($79). Sparkle is another way to accent bright colors. So you’ll definitely be seeing me stack the new Amelie Sparkle Bracelets ($39) on my wrist.

Sydne-Style-Stella-and-Dot-fashion-week-jewelry-peach-crystal-bracelet

The second way of adding a pop of color is with a statement necklace. Stella & Dot’s Linden Necklace ($138) will bring a taste of Spring into any black and white outfit.

‘Hello Handbag’ Loves the Stella & Dot Pouf

This post is originally from the fabulous style blog Hello Handbag.
Go over and check it out.

You know what I should be doing? Work.

You know what I’m actually doing? Shopping.

I’m can’t pull myself away from one of my new favorite brands, Stella and Dot, and their “poufs.” A pouf is a little bag for… everything. Makeup, hand sanitizer, hot sauce, really whatever you want to pack into it.

This isn’t the tiny can’t-fit-a-damn-thing-in-it bag. It’s almost the size of an iPad (about as long and maybe 2/3 as wide). Actual measurements: about 3.5″ high, 6.1″ long and 3.5″ deep.

And this print! You just can’t get better. The colors are bold and the print has personality. I happen to be the proud adoptive mom of an elephant (Quanza, a delightful 2 year old calf at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust), so the elephant print is just the ticket for me. You can also get poufs in cheetah print, bows, stripes, fancier stripes, you name it. And they’re only $24.

Want one? Start here.

Extra bonus – in addition to the beautiful lining, there’s a surprise embellishment on the inside that says “hey there beautiful.” Because sometimes we all need that little reminder.

If you’re loving this Stella and Dot goodness as much as I am, give my dear friend Erin Markland a call. She’s an excellent stylist and a lovely person.

Thanks to Stella and Dot for the photos.

Top Accessory Trends for Fall 2013

This fall, color is bright and bold, and it’s all about mixing textures & styles. The season’s trends can easily transition from day to evening, and any one can wear a few trends at a time without looking costume-y. Check out the top 5 trends and how to wear them right now and into winter.

Trend #1: Cobalt
Neon ruled the summer, but this season, blue is at its best. From deep navy to cobalt, this hue is making a big splash. You can find this hue in every store, from Forever 21 to Banana Republic, and you can easily wear it to work and to football practice.

How to Wear Blue for Fall & Winter:
* First, determine what style you are and how you can most likely fit this into your wardrobe. If you like classic lines, go with a bright blue v-neck sweater, pencil skirt, suede pumps or button-up shirt. If you want to add in a little spunk and jazz up your wardrobe, then be bold with a navy leather jacket, or add a pop with a pretty scarf trimmed in the fun, bright, trendy color.

Erin’s Style Notes:
Keep in mind that this color isn’t as obnoxious or attention-grabbing as other hues. Bright blue can be very sleek, clean and “almost” neutral. Blue is a universal color and most people wear blue jeans every day, so our eye is accustomed to seeing this shade. Don’t be afraid of a bright blue sheath dress or a cobalt coat, for example. Both will stand the test of time and will still be “on-trend” years to come.

Trend #2: Animal Prints
From leopard to snakeskin, animal prints are fall’s favorite wild card. Both exotic and neutral, they add sophistication to feminine silhouettes. And the thing about animal is this: Wear a little or a lot. It can be subtle or funky. And that’s all determined by how you wear the trend.

How to Add Leopard to Your Wardrobe:
* If you don’t already have leopard – or if you have just a piece or two – start small & start with accessories. Try a ballet flat, belt, wallet, or scarf in the print.
* Stick with one leopard print item at a time & work your way up to two prints (if you’re feeling bold & adventurous)
* Love this print? Try a sexy animal print dress or a snakeskin jean. Try Old Navy for affordable, trendy options.
* Look for animal print lining in a jacket or blazer, or on a collar. Also, check for animal print piping. The

Erin’s Style Notes:
Boden USA has some adorable (and very affordable!) leopard print flats and belts right now. I personally love leopard print because it incorporates both black and brown. A lot of people think they can’t wear black and brown at the same time. If you feel this way, try a leopard print accessory to bring in both tones. Black pants with a leopard shoe or belt allows you to wear any other accessory color you wish. Red bag? Sure! Brown sunnies? Yes please. Green cardigan? That wold look great.

And snakeskin is usually very subdued in color and can act as a neutral in your outfit. A snakeskin print that’s colorful is super trendy and may become outdated quickly. Try a neutral tone, such as The Switch Tote Bag from Stella & Dot.

Trend #3: Texture
Fall 2013 runways featured opulent details and exciting textures, such as sumptuous leather layered with metallic embellishments in every hue, tweed, brocade and beautiful stitching. Leather jackets are THE item of the season, and paired with a nubby knit sweater, it’s perfectly fall appropriate. Wear a woven necklace with your LBD or work sheath for a hint of textural drama.

How to Add Texture to Your Outfit:
* Start by adding two different textural elements to your ensemble, such as…  Lace, leather, silk or satin, denim, rope, knitwear or woven materials.
* This is a great way to wear a monochromatic outfit or wear similar shade (i.e. neutral beige or all black)

Erin’s Style Notes:
In the image above, the model is wearing a great black leather jacket with a cotton tee and denim jeans. Simple enough, right? Yes, but it’s simplicity is turned up a notch because it features several textures. Add on a funky necklace, and it finishes the look.

In the image below, the model is wearing a great neutral outfit. But let’s look at why it works: beige knit sweater, light blue jeans and a metallic leather-like bag combine the same color family, but mixes in completely different textures. Doing this adds great dimension to her outfit. It will never look “flat.”

Trend #4: High Shine
Forget subtle—take center stage when combining neutrals with shine. Add a metallic bag or shimmering jewelry to amp up your star power without being too over-the-top. A fun metallic skirt, silver heel or sparkly wristlet are all great ways to incorporate this trend.

How to Shine Up Your Wardrobe:
* Jewelry! This is an obvious choice, but a sparkly pair of earrings is the best way to add shine to your outfit.
* Metallic stitching in a sweater or hat can also add that subtle hint of gleam.
* Metallic anything – it’s all good. Belts, shoes, even nail polish. Add no more than two at a time, and don’t worry if they don’t match exactly. I would just stay away from anything too bright. If Liberace would wear, it may be too much.

Erin’s Style Note:
This trend is the easiest, in my opinion, because there are so many great metallic accessories and clothing options for an affordable price. Plus, metallics are pretty middle-of-the-road neutral. No matter your age, size, job, etc… It will work for you.

An easy way to wear two different metallics at one time? Mixed metal jewelry. Just like the texture trend, this adds a lot of dimension to an outfit without much work. Stella & Dot’s Zoe Lariat Necklace or Kahlo Bib Necklace feature 4 different metals. Or try the Raina Chandelier Earrings for a great, subtle sparkle & you have the option to wear either rose gold, silver or yellow gold.

Trend #5: Stack it on
When it comes to rings and bracelets, more is more! Drape jewels from delicate to bold or stack mixed metals on your fingers and wrists to show your personality and style. Rose gold, silver, hematite… Or all of the above! Mix and match metals, sizes and styles for a look all your own.

How to Stack It On:
* Start by choosing pieces that have a similar tone and size, such as the silver & black bracelets in the example above.
* Don’t be afraid to mix metals. Silver, rose gold, yellow, hematite – they all look great worn together!
* Experiment with texture – wear wood beads with metal bangles, or shiny rings with subdued gemstones.

Erin’s Style Notes:
I love a bright accessory or pop of color and this is the perfect way to do it! Add a turquoise ring to your existing ring stack, or wear Stella & Dot’s beautiful Zinnia Bracelet with a gold, structured cuff, or a bright leather bracelet with neutral boho beads.

Also, a great way to mix in metals is to add in one or two new items with what you already have. Consider adding the multi-metal Luna Wrap Bracelet (which can also be worn as a necklace!) with your everyday watch, or add on the Wanderlust Wrap Bracelet to your outfit.

Behind the Design: Stella & Dot’s Fall 2013 Jewelry Collection

This post is originally from Stella & Dot’s StyleWatch Blog, read it here.

Creating the Stella & Dot fall 2013 jewelry collection was truly a collaborative process at our New York design studio. Pricella and I traveled to Europe to visit vintage dealers and flea markets as well as take in the local street style. We found inspiration everywhere from a patina covered fountain to 19th century glass chandelier pieces. After returning to New York, we worked with our design team including our model makers to create unique elements to each style. No detail is too small for us and I love that about our team in New York. We wanted to create a collection that stood out among the rest and made a statement.

kahlo collage

We like to include custom elements as much as possible in our designs. Many of our pieces this season have beautifully hand-cut stones and custom metal beads designed specifically in our NY design studio. What starts as a sketch is then recreated as a wax model. This wax model is then transformed into a metal casting that can be used to create the custom elements found in many of our fall pieces. We wanted to create a collection that has a lot of dimension and texture that can really update your favorite LBD or simple white tee.

Currently, there are about 28,000 homeless children in Orange County, CA elementary schools — And they need our help.

Stella & Dot Scarves… As Good as Their Jewelry

Couture accessories brand Stella & Dot has revived the jewelry, direct sales and retail industries within their six years. And now, they’ve knocked it out of the park with their scarves. The award-winning jewelry company is quickly becoming a full blown accessories brand, as their soft, luxurious scarves are becoming just as coveted and loved as their jewelry.

A scarf is one item that can really revamp an entire look for not a lot of money. You can add a pop of color and create interest & dimension to your outfit with a scarf. Plus, let’s not forget their ultimate function: they stave off a chill on a breezy night or keep you cozy during cold winter months.

Stella & Dot’s scarves are large 40″ x 80″ size, luxuriously soft and lightweight, and come in eight beautiful prints! What more could you want?? Well… What about a fabulous price point of just $59? It’s just what Stella & Dot is all about — affordable luxury.

Screen shot 2013-09-04 at 8.58.26 PM
For less than $60, the scarf is the best way to update – and really elevate – your look for fall without spending too much money. Your every day jeans and tee look become chic. Upgrade your dress and moto jacket with a colorful wrap around your neck. There are countless ways to tie it and wear it — And my favorite way is the sailor knot, shown below. (See how to tie it HERE in this video – look #3)

sailorknot-scarf
Solid versus print – that is the question. While I love a bright, solid colored scarf, such as the bright orange one above, I’m a sucker for a fun print and lots of color. I feel like you get more bang for you buck with a printed scarf, as you can really punch up any outfit, especially your basics. With several colors within a fun print, you can take it further than a solid color scarf, and pull in different colors instead of just the one color.

How to Layer a Long Necklace

Layering necklaces is a classic way to enhance any look. Here are my three style tips on how to layer a long necklace to add interest, color & texture to any outfit.

Screen shot 2013-06-19 at 9.13.18 PM
1.) Add interest — Layering is a great way to add texture and color to your outfit. You can mix metals and textures, such as pearls with metal, or silver with wood beads. And you can always add in color with a fun necklace. Shown above left: Adina Coral Necklace and Gold Demi Layering Necklace from Stella & Dot.

2.) Pair short with long — A classic is a classic for a reason. Pairing a short necklace with a longer necklace is a basic way to layer. This is especially easy with necklace with similar elements, such as the gold teardrop featured on both necklaces. Shown above center: Green Jade La Folie Necklace and Gold Demi Layering Necklace from Stella & Dot.

3.) Build your own necklace — Create a statement look all your own by layering several necklaces together. Long or short, layer on several necklaces of varying lengths, widths and materials. This is a great way to add drama and interest to a basic blouse or dress, or create a statement look without the bulk of a heavy necklace. Show above right: Rebel Pendant Necklace, Gold Libby Layering Necklace and the Gold Demi Layering Necklace from Stella & Dot.

Pantone Announces Emerald the Color of Year for 2013

Green is one of my all time favorite colors, and a fresh emerald green is especially stunning. This color conjures up specific images and moments in American pop culture: Peter Pan’s tights, the sparkly Emerald City, or J. Lo’s revealing Grammy dress, just to name a few. This color is fresh, vibrant, and alive. It’s joyous and bold without being too loud or in-your-face. I love that Pantone picked it for the color of year for 2013. Read Pantone’s official press release below. Or read it on their Web site HERE.

“Lively. Radiant. Lush… A color of elegance and beauty
that enhances our sense of well-being, balance and harmony.”

Pantone Reveals Color of the Year for 2013:
PANTONE 17-5641 Emerald

Radiant, jewel-toned Emerald promotes balance and harmony

CARLSTADT, N.J., Dec. 6, 2012 – Pantone LLC, an X-Rite company and the global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the design industries, today announced PANTONE® 17-5641 Emerald, a lively, radiant, lush green, as the Color of the Year for 2013.

The 2012 Color of the Year, PANTONE 17-1463 Tangerine Tango, a spirited, reddish orange, provided the energy boost we needed to recharge and move forward. Emerald, a vivid, verdant green, enhances our sense of well-being further by inspiring insight, as well as promoting balance and harmony.

Most often associated with brilliant, precious gemstones, the perception of Emerald is sophisticated and luxurious. Since antiquity, this luminous, magnificent hue has been the color of beauty and new life in many cultures and religions. It’s also the color of growth, renewal and prosperity – no other color conveys regeneration more than green. For centuries, many countries have chosen green to represent healing and unity.

“Green is the most abundant hue in nature – the human eye sees more green than any other color in the spectrum,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “As it has throughout history, multifaceted Emerald continues to sparkle and fascinate. Symbolically, Emerald brings a sense of clarity, renewal and rejuvenation, which is so important in today’s complex world. This powerful and universally appealing tone translates easily to both fashion and home interiors.”

Emerald for Fashion
The prevalence of green has been steadily rising for several seasons, especially in the fashion and couture markets, and even on the red carpet. Appropriate for every occasion, Emerald’s classic elegance makes for striking and irresistible women’s formal and everyday wear as well as accessories. Emerald also makes a strong statement in men’s sportswear, knitwear and ties. Fashion designers featured in the PANTONE Fashion Color Report Spring 2013, including Tracy Reese, Nanette Lepore, Barbara Tfank, NAHM and Marimekko, are incorporating Emerald into their spring collections. Balanced yet sophisticated, Emerald enlivens all colors in the spectrum and will continue to make a statement beyond spring and summer into fall and winter.

Emerald for Beauty
Equally harmonious on the cosmetic color wheel, Emerald dramatizes all eye colors as it beautifully enhances green eyes, is compatible to blue eyes, emphasizes the green undertone in hazel eyes and intensifies brown eyes to make them appear deeper. Emerald is also a perfect complement to peaches, pinks, roses, ruby reds and aubergines – offering a variety of lipstick and blush options. For those who want to sparkle and stand out, Emerald is the perfect punctuation point in nail color because of its complementary nature.

Sephora and Pantone proudly announce the SEPHORA + PANTONE UNIVERSE™ 2013 Color of the Year beauty collection featuring PANTONE 17-5641 Emerald, which will be available exclusively at Sephora in March 2013. Sharing a strong passion for how color can transform a face, mood or even an attitude, Sephora and Pantone continue to change how consumers wear, feel and think about color through the second annual radiant and modern Color of the Year beauty collection.

“At Sephora, we pride ourselves on giving our clients first access to what’s on trend – whether that’s a color, a formula or an ingredient story. With the 2013 Color of the Year collection, we achieve all of the above and we couldn’t have a better partner than Pantone,” said Margarita Arriagada, senior vice president of merchandising for Sephora.

The limited edition 2013 Color of the Year beauty collection features a variety of products in Emerald, including eye shadow, nail polish and accessories, and will be available at Sephora stores across the U.S., Sephora inside JCP and Sephora.com.

Emerald for Interiors
Enhance your sense of well-being at home by rejuvenating the interior with Emerald paint, accents and accessories. This jewel-like hue will create a luxurious feel in an entryway, powder room, dining room or study, and bring life to a living room as an accent wall. Add a splash of color to the kitchen and dining room areas with Emerald dinnerware, stemware and appliances.

Enliven your home with Pantone bedding, pillows, bath towels and accessories in Emerald available exclusively at jcpenney stores and on jcp.com beginning Feb. 1, 2013.

“As we re-energize our home department next spring, we are excited to partner with the leading authority on color to introduce the first-ever line of Pantone bedding and bath products,” said Paul Rutenis, jcpenney general merchandise manager for home. “The cheerful array of on-trend pieces will make it easy for customers to infuse the perfect color into any home décor.”

About the PANTONE Color of the Year
The Color of the Year selection is a very thoughtful process. To arrive at the selection, Pantone quite literally combs the world looking for color influences. This can include the entertainment industry and films that are in production, traveling art collections, hot new artists, popular travel destinations and other socio-economic conditions. Influences may also stem from technology, availability of new textures and effects that impact color, and even upcoming sports events that capture worldwide attention.

For more than a decade, Pantone’s Color of the Year has influenced product development and purchasing decisions in multiple industries, including fashion, home and industrial design, as well as product packaging and graphic design. Past colors include:

  • PANTONE 17-1463 Tangerine Tango (2012)
  • PANTONE 18-2120 Honeysuckle (2011)

Arm Candy: How to Stack Your Bracelets

Bracelets, baubles and bangles are all the rage right now, and a stacked wrist is the ultimate cool-girl way to accessorize. Stack up your arm candy by layering different bracelets and bangles together for a mix & match look that’s all your own. Here’s how to do it:

Keep in mind the following when choosing your stacking bracelets combo:
– Color
– Metal
– Style
– Size
– Texture

1.) Unexpected style + similar color = Feminine yet edgy bracelet combo

My friend Jenny’s light pink leopard print dress is feminine, with a one shoulder ruffle and short hemline. She paired it with equally feminine heels. But Jenny is a little bit rock ‘n’ roll, so she expressed her inner rocker chick with some edgy bracelets in the same color combo as her dress. She kept it feminine with the Rhea Bangles in rose gold, but she added an unexpected edge with the dark Hematite Cupchain Bracelet and the rose gold Copper Chain Bracelet, all from Stella & Dot. The combo really pulls together the feminine fluidity of the dress and the edgy leopard vibe. What do you think? (Her ring is the funky, rose gold Sidewinder Ring from Stella & Dot. Don’t you love it?)

2.) Mixed metals + texture = Edgy, boho stacked wrist

This is one of my favorite combos. I took this picture on my way to a Young The Giant concert, so I had to pull in my inner rocker goddess. I paired my own thin gold bangles with the Artemis Cuff, the Revival Bracelet and the Prosper Bracelet from Stella & Dot. The different textures (studs, wood, sparkles, delicate gold) makes this look unique and all my own. And the mix & match of the metals pulls it all together.

3.) Same metals + different sizes + fun colors = Glam, colorful arm candy

This stacked look screams summer. I can just see myself jingling these bracelets as I walk along the beach in a flowy maxi dress or short summer shorts. The key to this look is sticking with the same metal palette and mixing in fun colors (here we have coral, turquoise and bright white). Add an unexpected larger bangle for some sass and you’ll be good to go. This look includes the Carrie Bangles, two pairs of the gold Devi Bangles, and the Paige Enamel Bangle, all from Stella & Dot.

4.) Same metals + similar size + same style = A bold statement on your wrist

I especially love this pic from Stylist Jennifer Storey because she incorporates her own watch in the mix. This is a great way to show how to stack bracelets with an existing watch in your jewelry wardrobe. She is wearing her own gold Fossil watch with the gold Renegade Bracelet, Luxor Bracelet and gold Bardot Sprial Bangle, all from Stella & Dot jewelry.

What to Wear to a Summer Wedding

Stella & Dot jewelry was seen this morning on NBC’s The Today Show on May 17th on the “Today Style” segment. Watch the video HERE.  Style expert Jenn Falik recommends women to not wear white to a wedding, even though this has been a popular trend lately (remember Kim Kardashian’s all-white wedding and Pippa’s sweet bum in her white gown?). Here are some options for the four most common weddings of the summer season.

1.) Daytime Wedding
2.) Destination Wedding
3.) Formal Wedding
4.) Intimate Wedding

Watch the video HERE

1.) Daytime Wedding Wear color and remember the wedge. Since you’ll likely be on grass at some point, you don’t want your shoe to sink down into the dirt. Have some fun with your outfit; and don’t go too short.

L to R: Laundry by Shelli Segal Yellow Pleated Dress from Lord & Taylor; Chantilly Lace Cuff by Stella & Dot; Lindsay Wedge from Kate Spade.

Erin’s Style Tip: The hi-lo trend (high in the front and lower in the back) is a fun way to be trendy and stylish, yet appropriate, for a daytime wedding. Just don’t be too loud with your color (no bright neon, please), go neutral with your shoe, and choose an unexpected accessory. If you’re wearing a belt, be sure it’s not too casual or too large. You want something a bit more sweet, such as a patent leather skinny belt or neutral tie around your waist.

2.) Destination Wedding — Pick something that’s easy to pack in a suitcase, such as lace or linen. Remember to bring a shawl or pashmina to cover up your shoulders if the evenings get cool (plus you can take it on the plane).

R to L: Pashmina Wrap Scarf from Amazon.com; Glint Flower CZ Stud Earrings from Stella & Dot; C&C California Cotton Print Dress from Nordstrom.

Erin’s Style Tip: If you’re not a lace person, like me, but still want something that’s comfortable and easy to pack, choose a more structured dress, such as polyester or a modal/cotton blend. When you pack the dress, fold it in half lengthwise (like a hotdog) and roll the it up so there are minimal wrinkles. Crochet or a knit would also work, especially since it’s especially appropriate for a (presumably) warm & tropical climate. Choose classic jewelry, and avoid bringing your diamonds and fancy gems – you don’t want them to get stolen or lost. CZ’s work just fine.

3.) Formal Wedding — The black tie affair calls for classic silhouettes and colors, so break out your little black dress. Make it special with a box clutch, sparkly jewels and fun metallic heels.

L to R: Shirred Strapless Navy Dress from Ralph Lauren; Petra Bracelet & Petra Earrings from Stella & Dot.

Erin’s Style Tip: Black doesn’t have to be the only option for a formal soiree. Try navy, burgandy, purple or muted pastels. Floor length would be best, but something mid-calf length or knee-length could work. Just be sure it’s not too sexy. The spotlight should be on the bride, after all, and not on your cleavage or your legs. A classic option: A strapless, floor-length gown in chiffon, silk, cotton or jersey with dangly earrings and wrist full of bling. You’ll never go wrong.

4.) Intimate Wedding The small “backyard” wedding calls for something more casual, such as separates and fun accessories. Have fun with your outfit. And just like the daytime wedding, wear some color.

L to R: Floral Kimono Cardigan from Forever 21; Gold Luxor Link Bracelet from Stella & Dot; BCBGMAXAZRIA Belted Strapless Dress from The Outnet.

Erin’s Style Tip: These casual, intimate shindigs usually go into the evening, so be sure to bring a cardigan or shawl. Wearing separates is appropriate and fun; low or mid-heels are best; and don’t forget a stand-out accessory and bright lipstick.

How To Wear: The Amalfi Collection from Stella & Dot

This style article was originally posted on the Stella & Dot corporate style blog, seen HERE.

One of the most talked about collections in our new spring line is the Amalfi Collection. Inspired by the sun-drenched colors and sophisticated classic-chic style of the Mediterranean, the Amalfi Collection is a nod to style icon, Jackie O. Our design team gathered inspiration from the vision of her walking down the streets of Capri wearing classic, tailored clothing and wanted to created fun, bold accessories to match her style!

Fast forward to today, and we’re offering a few fun ways to wear the collection, pairing up with some of spring’s hottest runway trends and of course Jackie O’s tailored, classic style.

Casual Friday:
White was a major theme on the runway for spring and our Serenity necklace is the perfect piece to wear with this trend. Sport the necklace with a bright blue or green top and finish the look with our Bardot bangle (gold) for the perfect, casual spring ensemble.

Weekender: Our Bianca Tassel necklace is a bold, playful piece that really shines when when worn with a basic dress and strappy wedges. Keep it simple up top with our Essential Ball studs (gold) and then round out this flirty look with the Renegade Cluster ring & La Coco clutch (black).

Date Night: As our Chief Creative Officer, Blythe Harris recently said, one of spring’s “it colors” is tangerine, and we’re loving the way this color pops when paired with our true-blue jewels. Try this trend in an evening look by layering the Millie necklace & Libby layering necklace (gold) over a bright shift dress & pairing with the Serenity small stone drops (lapis) for the ultimate statement.

Pantone Names “Tangerine Tango” the 2012 Color of the Year

This article is originally from Pantone and can be read HERE.

Pantone Reveals Color of the Year for 2012:
PANTONE 17-1463 Tangerine Tango

Dance into the New Year with this vivacious and appealing reddish orange

CARLSTADT, N.J., Dec. 8, 2011 – Pantone LLC, an X-Rite company (NASDAQ: XRIT), and the global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the design industries, today announced PANTONE® 17-1463 Tangerine Tango, a vivacious, enticing hue, as the color of the year for 2012.

The 2011 color of the year, PANTONE 18-2120 Honeysuckle, encouraged us to face everyday troubles with verve and vigor. Tangerine Tango, a spirited reddish orange, continues to provide the energy boost we need to recharge and move forward.

“Sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.”

Over the past several years, orange has grown in popularity and acceptance among designers and consumers alike. A provocative attention-getter, Tangerine Tango is especially appealing in men’s and women’s fashion. Fashion designers featured in the PANTONE Fashion Color Report Spring 2012, including Tommy Hilfiger, Nanette Lepore, Cynthia Steffe by Shaun Kearney, Elie Tahari and Adrienne Vittadini, are incorporating this attractive orange into their spring collections. A fun, lively take on a traditional autumnal hue, Tangerine Tango will surely carry through to fall fashion as well.

A winner in cosmetics because of its versatility, Tangerine Tango is a bit exotic, but in a very friendly, non-threatening way. Add a sultry flair to lips, cheeks and nails with Tangerine Tango. An unexpected eye shadow color, Tangerine Tango is a complementary opposite that flatters blue or green eyes. When paired with brown eyes, it brings out an amber cast.

Influences may also stem from technology, availability of new textures and effects that impact color, and even upcoming sports events that capture worldwide attention.
