Hot Fashion Color Trends For Spring 2010
Pantone unveiled its Fashion Trend Report for Spring 2010 after New York’s Fashion Week in September 2009. They detemined the top nine colors that would help define the fashion world this Spring. Take a look at what colors they predict will be hot, hot, hot:
Turquoise – [Pantone #15-5519] — Touted as the IT color for 2010, turquoise is a universally flattering and fun shade for fashion. No matter how you wear it — a beaded turquoise necklace, a paint-splattered ruffle dress or bright, kitschy suede pumps – it’s sure to look fresh and fun this season. A fun way to wear the trend is with a fabulously big turquoise bag, such as the Nordstrom Multi Zip Crossbody Satchel for $128. Tres chic!
Get your Stella & Dot Fashion Fix: Try the triple-strand Turquoise Sea Necklace for $168. If you need to tighten your belt but still want to try the trend, you won’t go wrong with the Turquoise Sea Earrings for $29, which Jillian Harris made popular on The Bachelorette. And if you prefer turquoise and gold, I recommend the Goa Pendant Necklace or Earrings, both for just $48 each, and also featured on The Bachelorette.
Tomato Puree – [Pantone #18-1661] — This bright, vibrant hue just puts a smile on your face. It’s a clear, tomato red with blue undertones and has also been referred to as “lipstick red” or “pomegranate.” No matter what name you give it, the color packs a bold punch. I especially love red acessories becasue they add an unexpected bit of color — like a cherry on top of your sundae. Check out the Nine West ‘Phyllis’ Sandal, exclusively at Nordstrom, for just $89. Or add an studded red leather belt to any top or dress for a cool, rocker vibe. Try the Vita Fede Como Cones Wrap Belt for $99.
Get Your Stella & Dot Fashion Fix: Check out the red Bloom Flower Necklace, on sale for $62, or the Red Kelly Cuff for $89, the same cuff bracelet Jillian Harris wore on The Bachelorette. For a little pop of red, try the Bee Charm Collection, $49, or the Priya Teardrop Earrings and matching Necklace with the Priya Ruby Ring.
Fushion Coral – [Pantone #16-1543] — This soft color reminds me of the peachy-pink insides of a nectarine, which I loved eating in my backyard on a hot summer day. Wearing this color refreshes and soothes in the exact same way. This spring is all about pretty, neutral palettes and pinks, corals, caramels and creams. Try a sweet coral jacket, like the Bleeker Blazer from J. Crew for $168, or a pretty peach nail color, like Tart Deco by Essie.
Get Your Stella & Dot Fashion Fix: The Palm Beach-inspired Boca Necklace with Bee Brooch, $98, has been spotted on Barbara Walters, and the Coral Soiree Pave Bracelet is the perfect little accent piece for just $29. The Selma Brooch Cuff is always a stunner (psst, it looks great with navy!) and was worn by Jillian Harris of The Bachelorette. It also comes with matching Hoop Earrings or Post Earrings. The Coral Bloom Flower Ring is also a smile-inducing and affordable option.
Violet – [Pantone #16-3320] — The royal hue gets a more laid-back vibe this spring, as it’s mixed with pinks, corals and neutrals for a watercolored effect. Violet is my personal favorite color and I think every woman should have a purple-ish piece of clothing and accessory. The violet Rebecca Minkoff MAB Mini Bag is fabulous and the Rebecca Taylor Racerback Tank, on sale for $192.50, is the perfect muted “bleached” violet for spring. This is one of the best color to play with, so don’t be afraid to wear it proudly. Purple toenails, anyone?
Get Your Stella & Dot Fashion Fix: The Della Brushed Ring and Stone Earrings are the perfect pair of earrings for the muted, violet trend. Also check out the Gemma Rings Necklace or the Lulu Vintage Glass Necklace, as seen in InStyle Magazine and now on sale for just $148. Also try the February Birthstone Briolette Charm for just $19 and the Garden Party Dot Earrings, $29.
Tuscany – [Pantone #16-1219] — This taupe-y beige color is not only wearable and great for everyday, and it pairs perfectly with brighter shades to neutralize or with pastels to add dimension and visual interest. The Chunky Knit Cardigan from Gap, $69.50, will keep the chill off during cool summer nights, and the gorgeous Silk Rose Print Top from Ann Taylor, $78, is a great staple for any wardrobe. And the Perfect Flat from Ann Taylor, $98, is a beautifully perfect shoe for everyday.
Get Your Stella & Dot Fashion Fix: Punch up the color quotient by choosing a fun pop of green with the Saveena Flower Ring, or keep it beautifully neutral with the Byblos Chandelier Necklace, $148, as seen on singer Colbie Callait. The Sofia Pearl Bib Necklace and Grace Pearl Bracelet are two best-sellers that feature shimmering champagne glass beads and pearls that will finish off your neutral-hued look.
Aurora – [Pantone #12-0642] — This bright sunny hue is two parts yellow and one part green and looks fantastic when paired with a bright Amparo Blue (below). Inspired by Michelle Obama’s inauguration gown by Jason Wu, the chartreuse hue is a trendy, fun look for spring and summer. The Theater Box Jecket from Forever 21, $27.50, is a bold take on the trend, and the Lime Juice Dress from Anthropologie, $138 is sweet and feminine. For a small dose of this color trend, pair the Slim Square Buckle Belt in Deep Chartreuse from J. Crew, for just $35 with your favorite jeans and a white t-shirt.
Get Your Stella & Dot Fashion Fix: The Palm Necklace with Starfish Brooch, $98, directly plays into this color trend, with chartreuse glass beads on turquoise silk thread with a detachable turquoise starfish brooch. Try the Starfish Stud Earrings, $34, or the Soiree Pave Bracelet in Turquoise, $29, to finish off the look, or wear the Yellow Bloom Flower Ring, $39, for punch of sunshine.
Amparo Blue – [Pantone #18-3945] — To me, summer hasn’t arrived until you pull on the brightest blue top you can find. Like the color of the deepest, prettiest ocean, it’s the ultimate color for those sunny days. Talbots has a great selection of swimwear in this exact shade, or try the punchy Tokidoki Blue Jeans, on sale for $69, from Yoox.com. Pair it with a simple white tank, chunky sandals and a statement necklace.
Get Your Stella & Dot Fashion Fix: The Lapis Blue Birthstone Briolette, $19, is the perfect shade for this color trend. I especially love it with gold! And the Martine Bib Necklace, on sale for $44, features navy, black and white, and is a great graphic necklace that looks amazing with a simple dress. If you choose a bright blue top, the Priya Teardrop Pendant Necklace, $69, is a surprisingly complimentary choice, as shown in the Stella & Dot Spring/Summer 2010 catalog on page 35.
Pink Champagne – [Pantone #12-1107] — The sophisticated, light, airy hue reminds me of cherubs and my first lipstick color, which was the lightest pink my mom could find. It won’t be difficult to find ANYTHING in this hue, since neutral pinks, caramels and creams is THE color palette for spring. Ann Taylor and J. Crew have both rocked this soft, feminine trend with Ruched Shimmery Tops and Silk Ruffled Tanks. A beige or brown stacked heel grounds the look so it’s not too frilly and girly. I especially love the Coach Karolina Heel, $238.
Get Your Stella & Dot Fashion Fix: The jewelry company is on-trend with the Colette Necklace, $138, with a light pink ribbon tie closure and champagne colored glass beads and pearls. Also try the Soiree Pave Bracelet in Champagne, $29, the Perfect Faceted Earrings in Rose Quartz, $38, or the Rosie Necklace and Bracelet combo, both on sale.
Dried Herb – [Pantone #17-0627] — I love this sage color and I think the name “dried herb” is so fitting. Military-inspired jackets and capris are everywhere right now. The Marisa Fit Utility Pants, $59, from Ann Taylor Loft is a soft khaki green and the perfect material for the sunny season. The Leo and Sage Button Detail Top, $15, from Bluefly.com, and the G-STAR Commodore V-Knit Sweater, on sale for just $84, from SSense is an awesome military-style sweater that’s still cozy.
Get Your Stella & Dot Fashion Fix: One necklace that comes to mind is the Artemus Stone Necklace, $298, which was the first statment necklace I ever purchased from Stella & Dot. The Costa Azul Bracelet/Necklace, $59, features a pretty green, turquoise and yellow, similar to the Aurora color, above. And the color combo in the Cortez Bib Necklace makes it a standout trendy piece for spring and summer.
Eucalyptus – [Pantone #15-0513] — This is another neutral shade, but has more of a khaki hue than the Tuscany color, above. The Solid Lieutenant Jacket, $98, from J. Crew is a great staple piece that will take you into the next season. The silk Blakely Wrap Blouse, $98 from J. Crew, is a sweet, ruffled top that would look adorable with chunky stacked heels and cargo capris.
Get Your Stella & Dot Fashion Fix: Mix up your outfit with the cool Riviera Coin Necklace, $79, which features beige-y labradorite gemstones and light blue calcedony stone with silver coins. The earthy look of the Signature Scroll Necklace, $44, and the Love Disc Necklace, $39, would look terrric with the trendy utilitarian look. I recommend the Fringe Hoop Earrings or the Hoopla Dot Earrings, as seen in O, The Oprah Magazine, to complete your outfit.
